What is The Sentient Circuit?

The Sentient Circuit is a blog about the pressing philosophical implications of artificial intelligence. The topics covered here range from trolley-problem-esque dilemmas to the economics of automation.

Who is the author?

My name is John, and I am a computer science professor with an interest in artificial intelligence. For the last decade or so, I have been thinking about the thought provoking future of AI and what it means for mankind.

There exists such a wealth of knowledge on the technical side of machine learning, but it is important that we do not forget the ethical (and, by extent, the economic) implications of this new technology. If the world is to develop it any further, we ought to assign lights and values before it it too late.

“If you are a scientist you believe that it is good to find out how the world works; that it is good to find out what the realities are; that it is good to turn over to mankind at large the greatest possible power to control the world and to deal with it according to its lights and its values.”

-J. Robert Oppenheimer, father of the atomic bomb
